The coastal resort of Shanklin is located on
the southeast corner of the island at the southern most tip of Sandown
Bay. The town is served by the railway, which connects to the fast
cat service at the end of the pier in Ryde allowing easy access to the
mainland and London. Car ferries also run to the island from
Southampton (Red Funnel) and Fishbourne and Lymington (Wightlink)
Shanklin is an ideal location for family
holidays, with E.U. Blue flag beaches stretching all the way to Sandown
sheltering beneath the cliffs of Luccombe and St Boniface Downs beyond.
Looking out across the English Channel, views extend to the White Cliffs
of Culver and Bembridge Downs. Signed coastal paths extend all along the
cliffs inviting walkers of all ages to enjoy the wonderful views over
the Solent to Portsmouth

quality eateries many providing entertainment in the season a small road
train provides a regular service through the summer months to the town
centre and the old village
A lift provides easy access for the less

the public gardens and coastal paths are even more spectacular
Shanklin is famous for its good weather and
the pretty Old Village located south of the High St It’s thatched
cottages and Inns, quaint shops and old fashioned tea rooms which offer
cream teas and good food and in the season, lively entertainment

Gardens where seated in a deckchair, you can relax and listen to the
band or enjoy Mrs Buckets cream teas in her garden full of flowers and
red squirrels, or wonder down the very first tourist site on the island,
Shanklin Chine, a deep gorge carved out by a stream. In this cool
sheltered environment, rare species of fungi and lichens nestle along
side the islands largest waterfall
At the foot of the Chine sheltered under the
cliff, is the old thatched Fisherman’s Cottage. So while the children
play on the beach in front of the Cottage, you can enjoy freshly caught
